Rethinking Learning Spaces
Interior Architecture & Service Design
2024

Rethinking Learning Spaces explores the transformation of the Harald Herlin Learning Centre at Aalto University into a more flexible, inclusive, and human-centered learning environment.

Developed through a service design approach, the project combines user research, interviews, surveys, and spatial analysis to understand students' needs and improve their everyday experience.

Inspired by Alvar Aalto's human-centered design philosophy, the proposal integrates natural elements, adaptable furniture, and comfortable spaces that blur the boundaries between studying, socializing, and relaxation. The design introduces a balance of private, semi-public, and communal areas, encouraging well-being, interaction, and different ways of learning.

The project reimagines the library as more than a place for studying, transforming it into a welcoming environment where productivity, comfort, and well-being coexist.
